The Pelican Breif

The weekend in (Pelican) brief:

*James's birthday on Wednesday. We eat burritos.

*Party on Saturday, Aaron brings 40 lbs of young cheddar.

*We, with cheese sculptor Jared Clark, construct it into the magnificence you see above. A cheese boom box. The tapes play Depeche Mode's Some Great Reward and the Bill Idol's Rebel Yell (it's a single), respectively.

*Go for a walk on Sunday in Prospect Park, and visit the Vale of Cashmere. Olmsted was a genius. A Genius.

*Monday (extension of the weekend) James and g-chat at length about what we would do with Guggenheim/Fulbright money. Answer: Lots. Specifically, drive around with windows down on warm afternoons listening to Grizzly Bear. Also: search out great tacos.

  1. what great birthday days. You and James are the best, and Olmsted was a genius. To have so much vision... it's like we talked about, to do something that you know you will never see the results of, and be driven to do it all the same. Like one of Allen's long term joke set ups. He doesn't know if he'll see the pay off, but that's obviously not the point.

I hope you find the tacos you seek.

  2. Sounds like a delightful week...that cheese block is the best thing I've seen in a long time. Where does one buy a 40 lb. block of young cheddar?

  3. That was Lindsey. Darren would have been wittier.

  4. Lizzy, yeah, I feel like I have but one thing to say about Olmsted, and I say it to everyone. But I really do mean it.
And thanks for the good luck on the tacos front. I feel like on this effort, the journey is its own reward.

Linds, you ask a good question: you get a block of cheddar that big in the east village. Keep that in mind for your next visit.
