A Suitable Day

People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy.
~Anton Chekhov

I hate to argue the point, but, I notice.

It hasn't been so long since I was first in love with James,
(really, really in love)
and happy
(really, really happy)
and, I noticed winter.
I remember standing on my porch and cutting
our goodbye short to run inside,
out of the Rexburg wind.

I am in love now (still James),
and happy too,
and I can't help but notice the spring coming back into my life.

I'm kind of a closet pessimist, and I feel myself
not completely enjoying the perfect spring days this week.
I'm waiting for hail, or snow,
for the other shoe to drop.

Friends, cross your fingers that both shoes are already on the floor.

  1. Hey, I love you, too.

Ok, now everyone's going to think we're totally gross.

I'm going to take you to a beach soon. And find the least hypodermic ridden area. And we're going to swim past the trash. Romantic enough for you?

  2. you guys are totally gross.

  3. Lovely pics, Valerie. You've given me something to look forward to since our snow has finally, almost completely melted.

    James, ew.
