What the French have Given Us, or, Christmas in California, Part II

Did you know the french dip sandwich was invented? Did you know that it was invented in LA? Did you know it was invented at Philippe's? Possibly by Philippe himself. The lore is that some bread fell into a roast beef jus, and the rest is history.

We waited a while to have lunch, we were pretty busy browsing a Mexican mall in East LA, and I found that the hysteria I experience while waiting for my food to arrive is more of a family trait.

Also, my dad sat next to me, and though he's totally right handed, I learned today that when he eats he is unnervingly ambidextrous.

A tip, for your next trip to Philippe's: just use a little of the mustard. Annie will tell you, a little goes a loooooooooooooong way.

Rachel, I didn't even know the double dip existed. This was my first time to Phillipe's. I have so much to learn.

  4. Such facts about the various dishes are quite rather interesting. In my view, your meeting over dinner was very productive.
