11ish

Salt Lake with the family was wonderful.  It was the first time I had traveled with Edie by myself, and that was less wonderful.  There were thousands of willing arms to hold her, but I had never noticed how attached she was to me, and being in a new place exacerbated it.  At least, I think so.  One way or the other, if I left her eyeline, she went bananas.  Two weeks of that, is . . . well, it was exhausting.

Still, there were trade-offs.  Like sharing a house with my parents and siblings, like a hot tub that never got hot, a reunion with family I haven't seen in years and years (hey cousins), spending time with my dear grandma, a historic village with a candy cannon (exactly what it sounds like), Moonrise Kingdom with brothers and sisters, and a house full of snacks (thanks dad).

It was a big trip.  I mean, I'm never going to travel again, but, it was worth it.

p.s. that second photo is my dad, "taking a rest".  He does this a lot, so once you get used to it, it's not so alarming.

  1. Ana told me that Edie "charmed everyone" at the house visit. I wasn't the least bit surprised.

  2. I literally just thought, "All the Appels AND a candy cannon? What a dream."

  3. Marta, that house get-together was amazing. It was all candy and soda and hot-tubbing (but in a not trashy way). Wish you could have joined. Next time?

Rachel, it was. That candy cannon was loud and blasted a ton of candy. A dream. Wish you were there.

  4. What opened at 11ish? I really must know. When the bad "traveling with a baby" memories fade and you venture back west, let me know...
