Pops



I know it seems like I do nothing around here but brood about how cold it is and how early it gets dark (like, three in the afternoon) and how angsty I am, but, on occasion, I do accomplish other things.

Edie is slightly anemic, which is pretty common for nursing babies and not a huge deal.  I give her a supplement  and I've also tried to up her dietary iron intake.  Iron can be tough to work in, it's not like she's eating ribs for dinner, so, I started making smoothies.  She wasn't super into them, and didn't really drink them fast enough, so, ta da, they became popsicles.

Here's what I do (in blender order):

orange juice (usually I use concentrate, but for this popsicle I squeezed juice from an actual orange)
spinach (the orange juice helps the body to absorb the iron from the spinach)
banana
frozen pineapple (I love it, so I'm generous-I get mine at Trader Joe's)
frozen mango (I'm running low, so I only use a bit - also from TJ's)

blend, then freeze.

Winter is a bum time for baby-friendly fruits and vegetables (what toothless baby do you know that can gum root vegetables?), so giving Edie one of these a day makes both of us happy.  And, she can hold it herself, so I can concentrate on whatever I'm doing (eating soup/watching hulu - we watch tv during lunch, no big deal).
