Like the End of the World

It might as well be the end of the world.  It's so cold.  Today I wore (as pictured above), a thermal shirt, my very warmest sweatshirt (a sherpa fleece lined number from JCrew), jeans, thermal socks, and slippers.  And I was still cold.  All day.

Edie sports long sleeved onsies under her long sleeved shirts everyday.  Usually topped by a sweater.  When not wearing shoes, she wears slippers, as it's way too cold for just socked feet.

On the upside, I will say that the logistical upkeep of weather like this (dressing myself and Edie, regulating temperatures with hot baths and warm soups, etc) is fairly engrossing, and has kept me from feeling the true despair that I'm sure is in store with arctic temperatures like this.

Right now it's 12 degrees, but it feels like 1.  You can thank the old wind chill for that.  No one was meant to live like this.

  1. Totally not related at all but that rug is the bee's knees.

  2. All I can say is that I agree and I'm sorry.

  3. I think the key is silk long underwear. Trust me. (Source: I did my undergrad in Minnesota.)

  4. Last year, I was all "oh, I guess I don't have seasonal depression" and this year I'm like "oh, when winter acts normal, it is the most depressing thing in the world."

I paint my toenails bright colors and eat bright colored candy in some lame effort to trick my brain into thinking it's spring.

Which, by the way, it will never be again.

  5. man, i need me some fuzzy winter mocs like, yesterday.
