Gauging Summer

Our neighbors bought a bbq and told us we were welcome to use it.  Not to be outdone, I bought a sprinkler and told them they were also free to use it.  I like to keep things even/steven.

This is how Edie and I spend a lot of afternoons.  There's a splash pad nearby, but the hose and sprinkler and my watering can is just out in the backyard, which is much closer.

I'm gauging the success of the summer based on how many times Edie ends the day diaper/bathing suit clad. So far, so good.

Other summer gauges include:

frequency of picnics:  fewer than in years past, but we're working on it
frequency of bbqs: looking good (see: neighbors)
popsicles eaten: Chelsea left us a box of chocolate cookie fudge bars, which are totally gone so, we're getting that done
unnecessary sandals bought: check
Sparkling water/limeade flavored with homegrown mint: tons
Things grown: lots of herbs, and currently, two tiny tomatoes
time spent in jaunty tennis gear: none, so far, but I'm really hoping to pick up the pace on this one
Nancy Drew-style mysteries solved: only a few, so far
time spent in my own bathing suit: not quite as much as I'd like, but I'm working on this too

  1. I think you're the only person I know who loves summer as much as I do. That list made me so very happy, and I'm not even with you guys. Also, your baby is pretty cute.
