Growing Older Is Killing the Child

Edie saw her cousin Taylor celebrate her birthday while were in California, and seeing the cake and lit candles made a real impression on her.  She's been talking about it ever since.

James brought Edie a bunch of helium balloons, and she ate most of an avocado for dinner.  She went for a walk with my mom who bought her a tiny pumpkin.

She looked, wide-eyed at her pink cake, and blew the candles out like an expert.  She opened a tutu from my mom and legos from us (there were also some cute clothes from my mom, but she threw those aside without a second look after she glimpsed the tutu).  We started too late and had to cut her fun short, but, in keeping with the spirit of the day, skipped her bath which she's grown to despise, so, it kind of worked out.

She keeps seeing her birthday cake on the counter and pulled her balloons after her all day.  When I gave her a slice of cake for dessert tonight I re-lit the candles and she blew them out again.

Celebrations always last as long as the cake.
